I’m On Wattpad Now!

Okay, so I already was on Wattpad, but now I actually have something posted!

I’ve been reading a lot of stories lately on Wattpad and I really enjoy the serial style that many Wattpaders (is there an actual name for them? For ME?) use. They post new chapters or scenes once or twice a week on specific days. Soooooo, I decided to start my own serial style story!

The story I have chosen to use is the novel I started for the 2012 NaNoWriMo. I did not get very far that year and gave up pretty quick, so I don’t have much of the story complete, but it has been haunting me ever since I abandoned it. I thought that was a sign that I should get back to it. And what better way than posting updates once a week on Fridays of the first draft!

Without further ado, here is the (temporary) synopsis for Obsession:

Obsession On Wattpad

While on a vacation at West Edmonton Mall with her best friend, Maia, Cheryl discovers that the guy she is trying to avoid has followed them across two provinces. Her ex-boyfriend, Brad, has been stalking her ever since she broke up with him and not even a road trip could dissuade him. While trying to have fun regardless, Cheryl drinks too much and wakes up to find that she has been kidnapped, but not by Brad.

Soon her life turns chaotic as she discovers an underground sect of genetically altered super humans.

Separated from her friend and with no idea how to escape Brad on her own, Cheryl throws her allegiance to the only people who seem to be able to help her. Her kidnappers.

The Unfair Treatment of Rats in Novels

My Pet RatsLook at how adorable these two little creatures are! (Yes, I made them pancakes. So cute!) These are my pet rats, Bliz and Min. They are such amazing pets. Seriously. Believe me! I’m not lying! Rat’s are unfairly judged to be icky, but really they are just like miniature dogs. You can teach them lots of tricks and they can be really cuddly (once they are done exploring their surroundings that is). They are super intelligent (unlike other rodents… *cough* hamsters *cough*) and they are super clean (as long as you keep their cage clean!).

Anyway, I am bring this up because I am an avid reader of fantasy. Well, just of books in general. And it is an extremely rare occasion to read about rats that are portrayed in a good way. The only book I can think of off the top of my head is The Witches by Roald Dahl. Oh wait, I actually think those were mice. Which is just ridiculous because mice don’t tightrope walk… Pssssh!

Well, that just makes me even more convinced. I need to write a book that contains rats as cute and cuddly pets. Not grotesque sewer rats that are slimy and stinky. Not disease ridden stow aways on an Atlantic voyage. But rats that are loved and clean and intelligent.

This is my new task. Yes.

What animals do you think get a bad reputation in novels (or just in general) and why? Do you think you could write about them in a more positive manner?

Change of Plans, Camp, and a Review That’s Coming Soon…

BannerSo that new project I mentioned in my last post… Ya, that one. It has exploded. Okay, not literally. (Or is it literal? Since literally now means figuratively as well… Noooope!) But what was going to be a single novella has now begun morphing into a full length novel. Not only that, but into the first of three full length novels. Oh dear, brain, you are creating too much work for me! I guess I will forgive you… again.

Camp NaNoWriMo! April! Weeee!

I’m going to be doing Camp NaNo again next month, but this time my word count goal is only 20,000 words. This is because I realized that I am not the type of person who can lock away their inner editor and just write. I tend to edit as I go… a lot. I suppose that means that my first drafts are more like a second or third draft, so that’s good. The first draft may take me longer, but in the end it takes about the same amount of time it would have if I only edited after the first draft was written. Makes sense, right? Suuuuuure… Whatever works!

Oooooh, so today is launch day of Katie Cross’s debut novel, Miss Mabel’s School for Girls! I’ve bought it and am going to read it over the weekend… Soooo, expect a review sometime next week 🙂

That’s all for now. Byeeeeeeeeeee!
