Journaling and Free Writing

Typewriter

I figure that because this post is about journaling and free writing that I will free write it*. So, sorry in advance if it makes no sense or if the grammar is so atrocious that it makes you want to poke your eyeballs out! Anyway, it is the tenth day of the A to Z Challenge and the topic for J is journaling, but since my journaling consists of free writing, that is also the subject! For a list of all the topics CLICK HERE!

The way I journal is by opening my Scrivener file called “freewriting” and creating a new “text” file and labelling it with the date and then I just type type type type type! I usually start with what has happened in my life since the last time I had written anything, even the mundane such as “I made a cup of tea and put too much honey in it and I was disappointed but I drank it anyway”. And then I go on to talk about what my goals for the day are and for the week and for the month and for the year. I literally do this every single day. Sometimes the goals are the same and sometimes they have changed drastically from one day to the next but I find that typing them out every day helps to ingrain the feeling in my mind of what I want to accomplish. I don’t know if it really helps, but I sure hope so!

Type type type type… That is what I type when I am unsure of what to write next but I need to keep the fingers moving and the thoughts flowing! Next I will write about the project I am working on whether that is a blog post or a short story or a novel. I will write about what I wrote last and what I plan on writing and where I want the story or post to go and when I want to have it done by and well just anything I think of as I go!

I use free writing as a way of getting my thoughts about my personal life out as well. I will retell a argument or a situation and I will pick it apart and vent and try to come up with a solution to a problem. Sometimes there is no solution aside from getting it out of my head. It is therapeutic. Seriously, try it. It can really help!

Blah blah blah blah, Ahh yes! I always end a journaling session with this: BYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

*I went back and fixed my spelling after because sometimes my fingers don’t work properly when I am typing that fast and I didn’t want you to have to deal with ‘words’ like draisticlay (drastically) 😛
