NaNoWriMo

Ack! I must write ALL THE WORDS!

NaNoWriMo

Day 14 of the A to Z Challenge is about National Novel Writing Month! (Click here for a list of all the topics)

As you may already know, I am currently participating in Camp NaNoWriMo. Which is basically the same as NaNoWriMo except I get to choose my own goal (25k words) and I can work on whatever I want (meaning it doesn’t have to be a brand new story which is good since this story already had about 10k words written before April 1st!) So, I am currently writing the rest of the first draft of Obsession. I really hope I can finish by the end of the month, but we shall see!

I first heard about NaNoWriMo on the third or fourth day of November in 2010 and right away started writing a novel. That novel (which only got to be about 25k) will NEVER see the light of day. It was horrible. But it was the furthest I had ever gotten writing a novel, so that was quite an accomplishment even if I didn’t reach 50k.

Since then I have participated every year, but only once have I won and it wasn’t a true win because I was a NaNo Rebel. I wrote back story, short stories, and character sketches for a novel I had started but never finished and managed to reach the goal of 50k words. That was in 2013 while I was also a full-time student. By the end of the month, I was so worn out that I felt like dying yet I then had to start studying for final exams!

I’ve also participated in almost every Camp NaNo since they begun! And I tend to do better with those. This probably has to do with the fact that I can set my own word count goal, but I think it is mostly because of the Cabin system. I have a few people that I am always in a cabin with (if they are participating that month) and we even have a thread on the forums each November for the main event. It is such a great community of people that participate in NaNoWriMo and it truly inspires me to write my butt off.

I don’t think I would have nearly as many incomplete first drafts if it wasn’t for NaNoWriMo! I know that sounds lame… Incomplete drafts… But an incomplete draft is better than no draft at all!

Here is too many more months of literary abandon! And too many more incomplete drafts (and hopefully a few completed ones!)

Just a Quick Update

Update! Update!

Soon this blog is going to be going crazy!

I’ve got tons of posts planned and many of them even written already for April because I am doing the A to Z Challenge! Starting April first, I will be posting a blog post everyday except Sundays beginning with a topic that starts with the letter A and ending with the letter Z! On March 23rd, I will be announcing the theme of my twenty-six posts in April! So make sure to sign up for my email mailing list so you can be alerted when that is up!

I am writing all of these posts in advance because I will also be doing Camp NaNoWriMo in April! I am going to be a bit of a NaNo Rebel once again because I am going to be continuing to write Obsession. I am hoping to have a completed first draft by the end of April and then I will start working toward my goal of fully writing a book by the end of this year! I will be continuing to post one chapter of Obsession every Friday over on Wattpad, so make sure to follow me and add Obsession to your library! (Also, get the mobile app for Wattpad because it is great. It sends a push notification whenever someone updates a story in your library.)

I am really excited for all the writing adventures to come and I hope that you are also 🙂

My next post will be the theme reveal for the A to Z Challenge and then the mayhem commences!

I Got a Puppy! And Failed Camp NaNoWriMo…

Isla

This is my cute new puppy, Isla! She is a Mini Aussie/Chihuahua cross. Isn’t she the cutest? She is. Buuuut, she is also a tiny devil. A tiny devil that takes up a lot of my time at the moment and caused me to fail Camp NaNoWriMo. But, that is okay because I have a puppy! Did I mention she is cute? Because she is!

On July 17th, my husband and I drove for an hour and a half to choose out a puppy. At first it was a hard choice. They were all so cute! But then I held Isla and instantly fell in love. We had to wait until the 22nd to pick her up as she needed more time with her mommy and to have her first vet appointment and her first shots. It was a hard wait. We just wanted her right away! But it was also good because then we had time to puppy-proof our apartment!

Once we picked her up, she was scared. The car ride home was a long one for her but she eventually fell asleep in my arms. The first few days were full of whining, but once she got used to us and her new surroundings (and the lack of her brothers and sister and mom), she perked right up and became the little psycho she is now. Seriously, she is a psycho! Just watch this video… (I have a few videos of her on my YouTube channel and I will be posting more!)

I was expecting that I was going to be busy with a new puppy, but I was not expecting the effect it would have on my writing. As in, I barely got any writing done at all! I lowered my Camp NaNoWriMo goal 3 times since we got her and I still failed. To fix this issue, my husband went to the pet store last night and bought a puppy pen. Now I can put her in there, with her toys and bed and pee pad, and get some writing done! And chores, of course. But, alas, it came too late for me to finish NaNo and I have failed yet again!

Anyway, it is me and my husband’s 2nd wedding anniversary today (7 years together total!) and I have some stuff to get done before he gets home from work, so I will leave you with another cute puppy picture…
