Baby on the Way!

After 2.5 years of trying, my husband and I finally have a baby on the way!

I will be 18 weeks tomorrow and realized that I haven’t written a blog post about this yet, so here it is! We’ve announced on social media already, so you may already have known before this post.

This was our social media announcement:

Baby on the way

My pup is so cute and going to make a wonderful big sister!

The pregnancy is going well thus far. Aside from feeling like crap during the first trimester. And now that the sluggishness of the first trimester has passed, I am back to writing! I actually started posting Tree of Eternity on Wattpad, so make sure to check it out 🙂

We will find out the gender in about a week and a half, so stay tuned on my various social media accounts for that update. I am so so so excited!

Yay, baby! <3

New Year, New Home, New Goals

We’re finally in our house!

  • The Kitchen!
  • Dining Room!
  • Living Room!
  • Master Bedroom!
  • Ensuite!
  • Tupperware!

(Do you think I have enough Tupperware? Probably not…)

We moved in on December 30th, so we got to bring in the new year in our new home. I am currently writing this in my half-setup new office! Woo, first time home owning!

Anyway, now for something not as exciting… I failed at my 2015 goal of finishing a full first draft of a novel. I know, I know… LAME! But I did get further than I ever have before, so that’s something right?

But now it is 2016, and I am setting the bar even higher! (Then, even if I don’t reach it, I will probably get further than I did this year. That’s my problem… Not setting the bar high enough!) This year I am going to PUBLISH my first book. Crazy, I know. I’m going to dive right into The Tree of Eternity and get this book DONE. New year, new home, new (lofty) goals!

How am I going to do this? I’m going to write. And edit. And write. And edit. REPEAT. Until I am done. Then I am going to put it out into the world and see what happens. Oh, and start writing my next book (Which will be the first of a trilogy that I am super excited about!).
I better get to work!

What are your goals for 2016? Comment below so I can stay on your case 😛 (And please stay on mine!)

Writing Resource? Writing Excuses!

I already wrote about Brandon Sanderson, but I purposely left out the podcast he is a host on so that I could talk about it here!

Day 5 of the A to Z Challenge is about the podcast Writing Excuses! (click here for the full list of topics)

Writing Excuses

About three years ago, I discovered that Brandon Sanderson and two of his friends (Dan Wells and Howard Tayler) do a weekly podcast on writing. I was stoked but I didn’t want to just jump in in the middle, so I started at the very beginning and started my way through the 15 minute (or so) clips. They’re about everything from characterization to plotting vs. pantsing to conventions, and everything in between.

I am still behind. I know, I know. I really should catch up!

Now, they have added another host to the podcast, Mary Robinette Kowal, although I have not yet listened to many of the episodes with her yet. (Yes, I am that behind)

Basically, Writing Excuses is a great source of information and anecdotes from successfully published authors. And, not only that, but at the end of each episode (except in the first season), they say a writing prompt to get the listeners writing instead of just listening.

I also just really like their catch phrase…

Fifteen minutes long, because you’re in a hurry, and we’re not that smart.

Do you listen to Writing Excuses? Because you should!
