I Got a Puppy! And Failed Camp NaNoWriMo…

Isla

This is my cute new puppy, Isla! She is a Mini Aussie/Chihuahua cross. Isn’t she the cutest? She is. Buuuut, she is also a tiny devil. A tiny devil that takes up a lot of my time at the moment and caused me to fail Camp NaNoWriMo. But, that is okay because I have a puppy! Did I mention she is cute? Because she is!

On July 17th, my husband and I drove for an hour and a half to choose out a puppy. At first it was a hard choice. They were all so cute! But then I held Isla and instantly fell in love. We had to wait until the 22nd to pick her up as she needed more time with her mommy and to have her first vet appointment and her first shots. It was a hard wait. We just wanted her right away! But it was also good because then we had time to puppy-proof our apartment!

Once we picked her up, she was scared. The car ride home was a long one for her but she eventually fell asleep in my arms. The first few days were full of whining, but once she got used to us and her new surroundings (and the lack of her brothers and sister and mom), she perked right up and became the little psycho she is now. Seriously, she is a psycho! Just watch this video… (I have a few videos of her on my YouTube channel and I will be posting more!)

I was expecting that I was going to be busy with a new puppy, but I was not expecting the effect it would have on my writing. As in, I barely got any writing done at all! I lowered my Camp NaNoWriMo goal 3 times since we got her and I still failed. To fix this issue, my husband went to the pet store last night and bought a puppy pen. Now I can put her in there, with her toys and bed and pee pad, and get some writing done! And chores, of course. But, alas, it came too late for me to finish NaNo and I have failed yet again!

Anyway, it is me and my husband’s 2nd wedding anniversary today (7 years together total!) and I have some stuff to get done before he gets home from work, so I will leave you with another cute puppy picture…

Camp NaNoWriMo July 2014!

Happy Canada Day!

Canadian Flag

It’s that time again! Time to get finger cramps from typing too much and butt cramps from sitting too much! Butt cramps? Really? I don’t know. Anyway, Camp NaNoWriMo is here again and yet again I am going to be typing my way to the winners circle, or so I hope.

My original plan for Camp Nano was that I was going to get started on a new story that I have been fleshing out over the past month, but that plan changed when I printed out the new outline for the novel I started last July for Camp NaNo. I read through it and decided it was time for a rewrite!

So my new plan is to rewrite last July’s novel. Not that I ever finished it. I only ever reached the 25,000 words mark before putting it on hold. But this July I am going to go for the full 50,000 word count goal and I am going to get this sucker written! I am aiming for about 90,000 words over all but if I can reach 50,000 in July then I will be over half way there and I will be beyond happy with that. So, see that word count bar over there >>>> ? The one that says ‘Dark Fantasy Novel #1’? I’ve reset it to 0 and you can see my new progress there as the month unfolds!

The reason I am choosing to rewrite the 25,000 words I have already written is not so much that it is bad, but that when I rewrote the outline, I realized that too much was missing. I am now adding another character and another subplot that begins right at the start of the story. Therefore, I need to rewrite as it would be much to hard to try and add it all in during revisions.

Mmm, this tea I am drinking is amazing… Just as a side note.

Anyway, now that I have wasted some time rambling on about my Camp NaNo plan, I should probably start implementing said plan… In other words, I need to get writing!

Are you doing Camp NaNoWriMo this month? If so, what are you planning to work on? And what is the word count goal you are aiming for?

Change of Plans, Camp, and a Review That’s Coming Soon…

BannerSo that new project I mentioned in my last post… Ya, that one. It has exploded. Okay, not literally. (Or is it literal? Since literally now means figuratively as well… Noooope!) But what was going to be a single novella has now begun morphing into a full length novel. Not only that, but into the first of three full length novels. Oh dear, brain, you are creating too much work for me! I guess I will forgive you… again.

Camp NaNoWriMo! April! Weeee!

I’m going to be doing Camp NaNo again next month, but this time my word count goal is only 20,000 words. This is because I realized that I am not the type of person who can lock away their inner editor and just write. I tend to edit as I go… a lot. I suppose that means that my first drafts are more like a second or third draft, so that’s good. The first draft may take me longer, but in the end it takes about the same amount of time it would have if I only edited after the first draft was written. Makes sense, right? Suuuuuure… Whatever works!

Oooooh, so today is launch day of Katie Cross’s debut novel, Miss Mabel’s School for Girls! I’ve bought it and am going to read it over the weekend… Soooo, expect a review sometime next week 🙂

That’s all for now. Byeeeeeeeeeee!
